Mark and Priscilla Zuckerberg Give Huge Donations

It has long been known that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg cares very little for his massive wealth. In 2012 Mark and wife Priscilla Chan proved money isn’t everything by giving a decent chunk of their own money.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy Zuckerberg, 28, and Chan, 27, donated nearly $500 million to non-profit organization the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The couple handed over 18 million shares of Facebook stock — valued at $498.8 million — money now being used to support education and health programs.

You may recall that in a December Facebook post Zuckerberg also promised to pledge much of the money he earns over his lifetime to charity. Zuckerberg’s pledge that has already included millions of dollars for various educational platforms. Among his other pledges have been a $100 million donation for Startup: Education, an organization which aims to create a “better education system” for students.

While Zuckerberg and Chan finished in second place for 2012 they were still far eclipsed by investment tycoon Warren Buffet who gave away $3.1 billion to his children’s three foundations: The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the NoVo Foundation and the Sherwood Foundation.

Just like the Zuckerberg’s Buffett made his donation in the form of stock shares, 12,220,852 shares of Berkshire Hathaway class “B” stock to be specific.

Adding to the list of top charity donors were Google co-founder Sergey Brin and wife Anne Wojcicki. Finising in fifth place the Google couple gave away $222.9 million.
