Wisconsin Man Tortures Girlfriend Over Social Media Chat.
Dylan VanCamp, a Wisconsin man with a history of violent crime, has been accused of waterboarding his girlfriend. According to a criminal complaint, VanCamp suspected his girlfriend was cheating on him with a man she was chatting with online.
VanCamp has previous convictions for violent behavior, including strangling and suffocating victims.
According to police, VanCamp’s girlfriend didn’t report the abuse at first because she feared her boyfriend would kill her. The criminal complaint says VanCamp once choked her until she passed out, while telling her:
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I am not going back to prison.”
He also allegedly held up a pair of pliers and told his girlfriend: “One thing has to go: a tooth or a nail.”
The waterboarding incident took place in June of last year. VanCamp allegedly became “enraged” when his girlfriend, who has not been named, “speaking with a boy she had known for quite some time” on a social media website. VanCamp punched her in the face and she fled her apartment.
She returned later that same day to take a shower. The criminal complaint says VanCamp showed up to her apartment, entered through the front door, grabbed her by the hair, and held a knife to her throat while he dragged her into the bedroom and pushed her down on the bed.
He then covered her mouth and nose with a washcloth and “dumped about three cups of water, trying to get her to admit she was cheating with the guy she had been on the computer with.”
She later said that she “could not breathe and it felt like she was drowning.”
District Attorney Don Dunphy says VanCamp faces up to a decade in prison and a $25,000 fine if he’s found guilty of the six felonies and three misdemeanors he’s being charged with. Dunphy told The Washington Post:
“I pursue these domestic violence cases to let people know we are watching and we are not going to brush these kinds of crimes under the rug. Now having said that, I would remind you that Mr. VanCamp is only alleged to have committed these crimes and he is currently presumed innocent.”
