During its Q4 2012 earnings report on Thursday LinkedIn announced that it had surpassed the 200 million members milestone. On Friday LinkedIn began to congratulate some of its top users via email.
LinkedIn users with top-viewed profiles receive an email that thanks them for their continued LinkedIn use while showcasing their current profile ranking.
Before the emails went out LinkedIn’s Ada Chen Rekhi announced via LinkedIn post that the emails would soon be coming to “many who have been instrumental in helping us reach this milestone to recognize their part in our journey.”
The email offers the following subject line:
“Congratulations! You have one of the top _% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012.”
Inside the email a link from LinkedIn executive Deep Nishar showcases an infographic with statistics from LinkedIn’s user base for 2012.
Not surprising the most viewed LinkedIn profile of 2012 was President Barack Obama who racked up 526,270 views.
Users who received the email were also given access to a pre-written Tweet to share.
The congratulatory email shown below was sent to Bob Balfe at Planet Lotus:
Here is a copy of the infographic that was sent with the LinkedIn ranking email:
On an interesting note, only one-third of LinkedIn users are located in the United States, yet the US was by far the largest user of the LinkedIn enterprise network.
We think this type of professional recognition is awesome and want to honor LinkedIn’s Top Users. MeritShare will honor the top 1%, 5%, and 10% most-viewed profiles with a MeritShare online badge and public award page. The benefit to the recipient is that a MeritShare award page is more permanent than a post in a social media stream. The MeritShare award page is also optimized for search; many MeritShare profiles with a photo and a badge show up in the first page of Google results for someone’s name.” A personal and professional branding win!
To receive a MeritShare award, just forward the email you received from LinkedIn to kevin@meritshare.com and we’ll send you a special “Connector” award through MeritShare.
Smart or Sneaky? There is a heated debate going on right now about this LinkedIn marketing campaign: https://jeffzelaya.com/2013/02/12/linkedin-top-10-percent-marketing-scheme/.
I also got mail from Linkedin in my Yahoo account. I got 5% most viewed Linkedin profile for 2012. Its nice badge to showcase your Linkedin profile.
