LinkedIn Answers is coming to an end. The company announced on Thursday that it would end the discussion forum in an attempt to focus on new products. Answers will shut down on January 31, 2013.
Answers was a section of LinkedIn where members could get advice on tough business questions from people in their trusted circles. By answering questions LinkedIn users were able to establish themselves as experts in their field.
LinkedIn has rolled out new features in recent months which negated much of the answers platform, including its Influence program which offers suggestions for experts to follow. LinkedIn also offers 1.5 million Groups where workers can meet people with specific interests. LinkedIn also offers Polls for instant feedback and status update options that often lead to answers of their own in a more direct manner within a users profile pages.
In an email to members LinkedIn noted:
“We’re focusing our efforts on developing new and more engaging ways to share and discuss professional topics across LinkedIn. We look forward to sharing the details with you in the coming months, so please stay tuned.”
