Pokemon GO, the pinnacle of social gaming, has taken us to so many places, met new faces, and experienced things (for better or worse) its players will not be forgetting any time soon. Unfortunately, some of the Pokemon you find at certain spots just make it downright awkward and kinda inappropriate.
What do we mean?
Well, one player shared with New York Magazine that they spotted a Rattata (a rat Pokemon) at the Auschwitz Museum. Grim as the idea is, it’s not all unusual to spot a rat a such dark and foreboding places… Right?
Unfortunately, the the next Pokemon was going to make matters a lot worse.

The U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.is home to three different PokeStops, giving players more incentive to go through the site. Unfortunately, the above-mentioned captured Pokemon is a Koffing — a Ghost-type Pokemon that emits — you guessed it — poisonous gas. It was spotted at the Helena Rubenstein Auditorium, which features the testimonies of concentration camp survivors who survived the gas chambers.
Oy.
Officials were not happy with the discovery. “Playing the game is not appropriate in the museum, which is a memorial to the victims of Nazism,” Andrew Hollinger, the museum’s communications director, told The Post. “We are trying to find out if we can get the museum excluded from the game.”
Other Pokemon were also sighted, this time along Israel’s Wailing Wall. Thankfully, the Pokemon seem to have no unfortunate references, and just happen to be critters you’d expect hanging around a Mediterranean climate.
