Katheryn Winnick is a Canadian actress and material artist who was born on December 17, 1977, in the small town of Etobicoke, Ontario.

In the Vikings-acclaimed TV series, she is known for her role as the warrior Lagertha. She is known for her roles as well, in Amusement (2008), A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2012), Vikings (2013–2020), The Art of the Steal (2013), Polar (2019), and Wu Assassins (2019), Bones (2010). The actress is of Ukrainian origin, and her real name is Katerina Vinnitskaya. She’s the daughter of Roman and Olesia Vinnitsky.

She has three siblings, Markjan Winnick who is an actor, Adam Winnick is an army and Daria Winnick. She completed her graduation from York University in Toronto with a major in kinesiology.

After that, she studied acting at the William Esper Studio in New York City. As a child Katheryn spoke exclusively in Ukrainian, learning English only for the first class.

She started practicing martial arts at the age of 7 and received her first black belt at the age of 13. In the 2001 American horror film, ‘Biohazardous,’ in which she played the role of Jennifer, Katheryn had her first acting gig.
