Johnny Manziel put up better numbers during the pre-season but the Cleveland Browns decided that the college football star wasn’t quite ready for the NFL. The Browns announced today that they will be starting Brian Hoyer on week one.

Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the first pick of this year’s draft and many people suspected that Johnny Football would lead the Browns onto the field this season. But after a subpar pre-season, and an immature middle finger incident, the Browns decided that Hoyer would be the starter.
The Browns write: “Ultimately, Hoyer’s biggest advantages are that he has played in the NFL for five years and the leadership qualities he has displayed.”
To all the people that drafted Johnny Manziel early in their draft. Ha. Ha. #JohnnyNotReady

#JohnnyNotReady Yes. He’s not ready. Not a true professional yet. I think he will ready be one day. For now, go Brian Hoyer! Go @Browns!

It was an ugly battle between Hoyer and Manziel. Neither quarterback showed that they were ready to start in the NFL but Coach Mike Pettine felt that Hoyer’s experience made him the safer of the two choices.
Pettine said: “He was the clear leader from the beginning. We’ve maintained all along that if it was close, I would prefer to go with the more experienced player. Brian has done a great job in the meeting rooms and with his teammates on the practice field and in the locker room.”
Hoyer suffered a season-ending injury last year and Coach Pettine said that he was impressed by Hoyer’s ability to get himself back into NFL shape.
Pettine added: “I think a lot of people discount that. Here’s a guy coming off of a season-ending knee injury. Really, these are his first, essentially, 20-25 plays of live work back from it, and he’s only going to get better.”
Hoyer may have experience, he may have poise, he may have shown fortitude during the off-season, but he’ll need to put up some bigger numbers if he wants to keep the starting position.
#Johnnynotready Baloney! Let The Kid Play! Let Johnny Football Prove The Doubters Wrong! They can always lose with Hoyer. This is Cleveland

No way, give Manziel a chance he is going to be the franchise QB #JohnnyNotReady

Manziel will be the starting QB in Cleveland at some point this season if he can just keep his mouth shut and work hard. Of course, that might be difficult for Johnny Football.
