Do you remember earlier this year when the internet made a big stink over the lack of diverse characters in the Star Wars cast? Well, now that the trailer has dropped, apparently some people have a problem with the cast being too diverse. John Boyega, who appeared in a Storm Troopers costume in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, responded to some of his haters on Instagram this weekend.
Boyega, a 22-year-old black actor, is the first person we see in the new trailer. He’s wearing a Stormtroopers costume, sans helmet, and, although we don’t know exactly what the circumstances are, he appears extremely distraught at what has just or what is about to happen. In fact, the only people who appear more terrified than John Boyega in that opening scene are the ones who just realized that some of the Stormtroopers may be black.
The hashtag #blackstormtrooper quickly lit up Twitter and many of the comments were racist.
Only in #Merica will you find racist trolls disillusioned enough to think that the Galaxy far far away is white only. #BlackStormtrooper

There is now no subject at which white people won’t grasp on to their racism and start yelling. #blackstormtrooper — David Quilty (@quilty_david) December 1, 2014
Some people may have been shocked about this black stormtrooper roaming a galaxy far, far away, but according to John Boyega, they should get used to it.
The 22-year-old actor posted a message on Instagram, saying how thankful he was to be in the new Star Wars movie. He ended his message with a subtle dig at all his haters.
