Is Netflix’s Arrested Development Revival Any Good? [Twitter Reacts]

arrested development season 4

Have you not gotten a chance to watch the new Arrested Development episodes yet? Are you afraid that series creator Mitch Hurwitz made a huge mistake reviving the cult series?

Fear not, kids. The new Arrested Development season, airing exclusively on Netflix, has passed critical and fan scrutiny better than you might have hoped.

It’s a tall order, after all. The original series wrapped long before its time seven years ago, but with a reasonably satisfying ending. The risks of bringing it back after such a long break were always greater than its potential rewards, even though many Arrested Development fans (your humble correspondent included) would have given damn near anything for more.

The good news is, the revival seems to have passed the test. Most critics have reacted favorably to the new episodes, with the only dissenters questioning the narrative structure of the new season (it’s kind of complicated, but in my opinion, very friendly to repeat viewers, i.e. Arrested Development’s entire audience).

The humor is there. The original cast is there. Heck, even bit characters like Sally Sitwell and Tony Wonder are back.

But until Netflix releases viewership data, we can only turn to Twitter to see how people feel about the new episodes.

Of course, there are some dissenters. Downsides to the new season are pretty well summed up in Jace Lacob’s review over at The Daily Beast.
