The Apple iOS 7 platform was released on September 18 and during the first 24 hours of release it received 5 million social media mentions.
The team at social media agency We Are Social examined Apple’s mobile OS chatter among all social media users to reach the 5 million milestone.
In comparison the Apple iOS 6 platform received just 749,505 mentions during its launch in 2012.
More users are logging into social media networks than ever before and that fact coupled with download problems may have led to the increase in iOS 7 social chatter.
Major iOS 7 download problems left many legacy device users with slow downloads, failed downloads, and even installation problems. Other users chose to stay positive and voice their excitement for the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C platforms.
In one massively shared tweet which received more than 10,000 retweets a user proclaimed:
iOS8 will be out by the time iOS7 finishes downloading
— Common White Girl (@CommonWhiteGirI) September 18, 2013
While users complained about the initial download process the overall reaction once installed has been positive.
According to We Are Social senior analyst Ed Kitchingman:
“The iOS 7 release was, for the most part, successful, but was hampered with complaints about updating problems on social media, which could have been handled more proactively and effectively by Apple. However, people were impressed with iOS 7 when they did get it installed, and users felt as if it really did offer something new and worthwhile. Apple should be satisfied with the consumer reaction, but should arguably consider a more proactive approach to handing real-time customer complaints on social media in the future.”
