Inside Look: The New Myspace [Photos]

Myspace revealed a new design in September and invites are gradually being sent out. Today, I received access and explored the new design. When you first sign up, you’re met with a very different interface compared to the original MySpace design.

The main navigation bar is on the top left hand side. In the center of the page there are some tips to get started. When you find somebody you want to connect with you simple scroll over their image and select the figure eight symbol. The term “friends” it should be noted has been replaced with “connections.”

To the right, the box that says “What’s the latest?” is where you post updates. Alternatively, you can click the blue “Post” button underneath the main navigation bar. There is a limit of 150 characters.

The space to the right is also where all of your connection’s updates will be and it will look like this:

At the very bottom of the page users also have a music player and some other features.

Clicking the Myspace logo will take you back to your main page while selecting your name will load up your profile and the flag icon is for notifications. When you click the chat bubble icon you will see all your current connections. Select someone you want to send a message to and a window will pop-up.

Next the “Discover” option allows you to see news that’s trending and if you click the search icon, you get to see the real power of the new Myspace.

Search for any artist you can think of and information will automatically update. You’ll be presented with six different columns: Songs, Artists, Albums, People, Mixes and Videos. You can start playing a song directly from that page or even select an album to start listening to it.

Songs and albums can be added to the queue, mix (playlist) or shared with others.

Myspace gives you the ability to customize your stream and select the type of content to display.

Selecting “Library” on the top left hand navigation gives you a quick look at all your music, videos and photos. Clicking “People” will display an image of all your friends. When you scroll over their image, you can listen to the most recent song they listened to.

Diving into “Settings,” you can edit basic information and your profile. Clicking the gray “Edit Profile” button will open up a new page.

“Edit Cover Image” allows you to upload a large image for your background. To the right, you can edit your description, location and website URL. You can also search for a song to add as your profile song and choose your top eight connections.

The days of glitter graphics and autoplaying Nickelback videos are over. Myspace looks to make a comeback with their new impressive design.
