Unlike other distracted driving ads, this PSA doesn’t graphically demonstrate its point with bloodied young victims in slow motion or accident-gnarled cars.

Instead, this simple text-style exchange creatively illustrates what can go wrong when drivers get distracted when texting behind the wheel.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, sponsored in part by the National Safety Council (NSC) to further educate the public on the dangers of being distracted by texting, eating, and operating other devices while driving.

At any given moment across the US, approximately 660,000 drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices, reports Distraction.gov.

Texting while driving unnecessarily puts everyone around the offending driver in danger as texters are at a significantly higher risk of being involved in a vehicular fatality.

There are three main types of distractions that occur when you text or web-surf on your smartphone while driving: taking your eyes off the road; taking your hands off the wheel; and taking your mind off of driving.

Younger, less experienced drivers are the highest offending group for texting while driving.

The CDC states, every day in the US nine people are killed and more than 1,060 people are injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver.
