Heavy metal band GWAR suffered a serious blow Sunday evening after its founder and lead singer Dave Brockie was found dead in his Virginia apartment.
Known by stage name Oderus Urungus, Richmond police confirmed Brockie’s death, and did not suspect any foul play.
Other bands shared their condolences, and here’s what Lamb of God lead singer Randall Blythe shared:
From Facebook to Twitter, Dave Brockie will clearly be missed in the heavy metal community.
Dave Brockie did far more for far longer than anyone. I hope the burial of Oderus is a national spectacle. Gwar is the peak of DIY creations

Very happy that I got the see GWAR at SW this year. Sad to hear that the world has lost such a creative man. RIP Dave Brockie.

Sad about Odorus Urungus. Wearing a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers T-shirt to my first GWAR show is one of my all-time favorite memories.

Sending chills down our spine, it appears that Brockie was expected to do a radio interview Sunday evening, but it was too late at that point:
Unfortunately Oderus from GWAR was a no show tonight during the recording of the Almost LIVE show but the rest went off with out a hitch

GWAR was formed in 1984, and it’s uncertain how the band will move forward with such a major loss.
