Grumpy Cat teamed up with four of her fellow internet cat stars for a special holiday video. The infamous Tardar Sauce was joined by Colonel Meow, Nala Cat, Oskar the Blind Cat, and Hamilton the Hipster Cat in “Hard to Be a Cat at Christmas.”
While the video doesn’t have many views on YouTube yet, we saw the cause (and the stars) and had to talk about it. You see, for every view the video gets (up to 500,000), Friskies will donate one can of wet food to shelter and rescue organizations across the United States. The cans will go to charities chosen by the five cats’ owners, including the Humane Society Silicon Valley, the Cat Welfare Association, and Purrfect Pals.
The cats even gathered together on Tuesday (minus Hamilton, who had to Skype in) for the unveiling event at Capitol Records on Tuesday. Photographers yelled for the cats to look their way, and wanted Grumpy Cat to open her eyes. Despite all the commotion, the kitty stars kept their cool as they posed for photos together and were even held by Santa.
The Los Angeles Times was on hand for the event, and spoke with Shawn Brain, Friskies brand manager, who explained the video by saying, “We created an unexpected, original song and music video to bring the issue of wet cat food for all cats to the forefront of owners’ minds in a way that’s never been done before.”
