Say what you will about stand-up comedy, but it’s certainly hard to make people laugh from the get-go. There is also the fact that a lot of comedians are depressed, and a lot of them are stand-up ones. One goth comedian, however, does not hide his sad face behind the laughter and jokes– he makes a joke out of it instead.
No not Simon Cowell, we’re talking about Oliver Graves, one of the highlights of a recent episode of ‘America’s Got Talent.’ I’m sure you’ve heard of that show, it’s the one where Simon judges people harshly on national television. The thing is, Simon actually liked Oliver Graves and his depressed and self-depreciating emo jokes. The whole Goth get-up also did make him stand out from the rest.
Based on the audience and the judge’s reactions, Oliver knocks ’em dead, in a good way. Oliver was even brought to tears backstage where he thought that people would not like his performance. It is a good thing Oliver gave it a try, otherwise, we would be stuck with the same old casually-dressed stand-up comedians.
Props to Oliver for taking quite a big leap with his dark and depressive humor. He did make those two opposing ideas blend well together. Now the people of YouTube are hailing him as a new type of comedy. We can’t help but agree with them, Oliver brings a new breed of comedy fresh out of the grave… get it? ‘Coz his surname is– alright never mind.
