Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie has introduced its first same-sex relationship and now actress Desi Lydic has taken to Twitter in praise of the company’s decision to feature a lesbian couple on a children’s show.
After her role was revealed the actress was quickly faced with both positive and negative comments. Regardless of what people say she tells her Twitter followers that she is “so proud” of the opportunity she was given.
The Twitter conversation started after a fan of the show sent Desi Lydic the following tweet:
I’m almost 99% sure that @DesiLydic is one of the lesbian mom’s on Good Luck Charlie tonight. Amazinggggggg! Love what Disney did.

As you can see Lydic was quick to respond with the #equality hashtag. The actress continued to monitor fan comments and then responded in kind:
@DesiLydic I can’t believe all the controversy about having lesbians on Good Luck Charlie I loved your role #equality

Any Swift, the Entertainment Director at Hollywood Life also received a response from the Good Luck Charlie actress:

The same-sex role wasn’t exactly a surprise, a representative for Disney offered the following insight during a June 2013 press release:
“This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors. Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”
