YouTube was briefly down for 30 minutes today, and the social web went a bit haywire over it — for a full half of a whole hour, we were forced to visualize cats doing adorable things, if we wanted to hear a song we were made to open iTunes, and if we wanted to reply to something snarkily, we had to come up with a burn and type it out It was basically the worst.
The YouTube outage did that thing, of course, where we are so freaked out by the intermittent unavailability of a thing to which we are accustomed that it became an insta-joke, mixed with some topical humor so we could come together to cope with a lack of streaming videos.
Here are five of the jokes we heard on Twitter about the YouTube outage:
YouTube is down. I guess that means all online videos are a failure and therefor should be defunded and repealed

The YouTube outage is this generation’s Kennedy assassination. You’ll always remember where you were when it went down.
