Facebook tiered comments are a new Facebook feature on the way in — though you may have spotted beta testing of it in the wild on the social network — making the site’s occasional epic comment threads easier to parse.
For those of us who are old message board flame war vets, Facebook tiered comments will facilitate the more old-school comment-centric debates to which we’ve become accustomed. And since many of us moved over to Facebook organically, the old model of tiered and nested commenting has sorely lacked and ruined many a good potential flamefest simply because no one could really follow what anyone else was saying.
Alas, Facebook’s tiered commenting won’t be available for the simply Facebook popular right away, if at all. ABC notes that the feature is being rolled out to pages with more than 10,000 followers — pages on which a good knock-down, drag-out isn’t really all that possible anyway.
The network explains:
Facebook is aiming to change that today, at least in response to posts by businesses and brands, as it offers the ability to reply directly to others in comment sections. In other words, users can start conversation threads … For those hoping that the feature be implemented on personal posts, you’ll have to have a minimum of 10,000 followers for it to be activated.
While no mention of personal page Facebook tiered comments was made, it may be something that is added not too far down the line. And such a feature could, in turn, make Facebook even more integrated with an every-web experience.
Do you find Facebook’s commenting capabilities to make in-depth communicating difficult?
