Facebook has very deep pockets thanks to multi-billion dollar earnings, and according to a new study, is the best ranked social platform among marketers.
The study comes from the Direct Marketing Association (DMA for short), who polled 171 marketers in the United Kingdom.
A “social media scorecard” was created by its Social Media Council, which took into account multiple different factors:
- Ease of use
- Ability to target users
- Contact objectives like brand awareness
- Quality of analytical tools
Facebook came in first place, followed by LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Google+, in that order.
While Twitter came in second, it ranked highest in generating brand awareness, and LinkedIn ranked highest in the ability to target users.
From DMA Social Media Council member Lynsey Sweales:
“The Social media scorecard is crucial for marketers to make an informed decision when choosing social platforms for their campaign. ROI metrics do not give marketers a full picture of the other factors they must take into account. For now, Facebook is the most marketing friendly platform in terms of functionality and post-campaign analysis but it will be interesting to see how this will change over the next 12 months. Only a handful of the marketers who took part in the survey were using image and video-based platforms such as Pinterest, Instagram, Vimeo and Snapchat, which is why the results aren’t included in the scorecard.”
