Facebook Testing Ads In Third-Party Mobile Apps

Facebook

Facebook has maintained a relatively walled garden with its ads only appearing on the social network, but today revealed it is stepping outside of the box.

From the Facebook Developers blog:

We are running a small test to explore showing Facebook ads in third-party mobile apps. In this test, we’ll be extending Facebook’s rich targeting to improve the relevancy of the ads people see, provide even greater reach for Facebook advertisers, and help developers better monetize their apps.

The social network says this test is similar to a mobile ad network, and are currently working with companies that have yet to be named.

According to Sriram Krishnan who works on mobile products at Facebook, the test already has all the participants it needed.

Facebook has no other details to share about the test at this time, but if all goes well, the social network could have another massive revenue stream on its hands.
