Facebook Mobile overtook Google Maps to become the most downloaded mobile application of 2012 among the iOS and Google Android platforms.
According to comScore data, Facebook also managed to rack up the biggest “time on app” numbers with Facebook users taking up 23 percent of their mobile time on the social network.
Facebook has long been considered a favorite for user engagement but Google isn’t sitting by idly. The search giant controlled five of the six most downloaded apps of 2012.
Among Google’s included apps were Google Maps, Google Play, the app hub for Android, Google Search, Gmail and YouTube.
When Google and Facebook were combined they accounted for 1 in every 3 minutes spent on mobile apps in the USA.
