Facebook Launches Trending Topics

Facebook

Facebook finally added hashtag support back in June 2013, and the social network is taking another page from Twitter with the introduction of Trending Topics.

Since August, Facebook has been testing Trending Topics, and they’re rolling out now on the desktop.

Pictured above, users will see them on the right-hand side of the News Feed above “People You May Know.”

In a new blog post, Engineering Manager Chris Struhar shared how Trending Topics will work:

The list is personalized, including topics based on things you’re interested in and what is trending across Facebook overall. Each topic is accompanied by a headline that briefly explains why it is trending. You can click on any headline to see the most interesting posts from your friends or Pages that are talking about that particular topic.

According to Struhar, Trending Topics will roll out on the desktop version of Facebook “in select countries,” and the feature is currently being tested on mobile.
