Facebook Introduces ‘Hack’, A New Programming Language

Hack

Over the past few years, Facebook engineers Bryan O’Sullivan, Alok Menghrajani, and Julien Verlaguet have been developing a new programming language.

The team worked alongside several others to build a language that lets programmers create complex websites and other software at fast rates while making sure code stays organized and free of most flaws.

The new programing language is called Hack and Facebook is built almost entirely from it.

O’Sullivan and company revealed the new language publicly and made it open source at the same time, sharing the technology with the world to promote coders to use it and help improve it.

Tools that can be used to automatically convert codebases have also been open sourced. O’Sullivan says they are dedicated to continuing to evolve the software and make development easier for both their own engineers and the broader community.

The Facebook engineer says Hack isn’t just limited to big projects, such as running Facebook which handles 1.3 billion users a day, but also for error messages, fast feedback, and small codebases that can reap the benefits of Hack as well.
