Long hours spent on Facebook, flirting with people who are not your significant others, absorbing all your free time into social gaming (Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc), those are some of the reasons Facebook is now being cited in up to 33% of divorces, more than double the number of filing mentions compared to one year prior.
According to British publication the Daily Mail, lawyer Mark Keenan of law firm Divorce-Online revealed:
“People contact ex-partners and the messages start as innocent, but lead to trouble.”
Kennan goes on to note:
“If you are complaining that they have a drinking problem and they have posted statuses about going out on the razzle … that could be used.”
He also says many of the divorces are filed because:
“If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then it’s the easiest place to do it.”
The moral of this law based story, if you’re going to get a divorce it would be a smart idea to delete old posts and avoid saying stupid things that can be used against you in a court of law.
