Embed Facebook Posts? Now You Can With Any Public Content

Users and news sources can now embed Facebook posts in content management systems like WordPress — a feature available for a long time with semi-competitor Twitter, now spread to the slightly different social network.

While Twitter’s embed post function has long been a feature, embedding Facebook posts has been missing for as long. It’s a bit of a drag to screenshot and type the content of a Facebook post for news orgs, and the streamlined look of an embed was always one that made Twitter a go-to for real time reporting.

The disparity stemmed initially from the closed garden nature of Facebook versus its more open foil Twitter. You can protect your tweets, but far fewer Twitter users bother. As a result, Facebook content has not gained the same traction along the line where news media meets social, but Facebook is clearly working on changing that.

Earlier this year, Facebook preceded their Facebook post embed feature by enabled hashtags. The move not only instantly dated any jokes about Facebook hashtagging, but also made the real-time results more dynamic, searchable, and useful for gauging sentiment, chatter, and finding content overall.

If you’re not a content creator, the option of embedding posts may seem inconsequential — but the ability means posts marked “Public” can be embedded anywhere on the web.

If you are, the option looks like this:

An embedded post like the one below pulls the Facebook content as it appears into your post or published page, so it looks like this:

The ability to embed Facebook posts is currently available for all public content. Go nuts!
