Tip #247: Do not make an Ebola joke on an airplane.
In case you haven’t noticed, America is a little concerned about the Ebola virus at the moment. You might even call it a full blown panic. Just look at how US Airways reacted after a passenger made a joke about Ebola.
According to the NY Post, a passenger flying from Philadelphia to the Dominican Republic made a joke about Ebola after they sneezed.
The passenger reportedly said: “I have Ebola, you are all screwed.”
The passenger was just joking but the airline didn’t find it funny. When the plane landed in Punta Cana a group of people wearing hazmat suits boarded the plane to remove the passenger.
Passenger Patrick Narvaez, who uploaded the video, writes: “Once we landed in Punta Cana we were told by the flight attendants that there was a situation and that a passenger may have been in Africa and had Ebola … She was certain it was a hoax but they did not take any chances and had a full hazmat crew board the plane and take the passenger off. It was later confirmed that the passenger was never in Africa and after 2 hours we were finally able to get off the plane.”
The CDC is being extra cautious in the wake of a recent Ebola outbreak and new safety guidelines have been implemented at a number of airports around the world. So, the next time you’re flying, make sure to keep your Ebola jokes to yourself.
