A week-long manhunt that soon turned toward two young men after the Boston Marathon bombing this week culminated in the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, alive, after nearly a day of a lockdown in the city.
The increasingly tense search ended tonight in Waterville, with police using thermal imaging technology to find the surviving Tsarnaev holed up in a boat. His brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in an altercation with police last night on the campus of MIT.
News that Tsarnaev was captured alive (in serious condition) was met with a universally pleased reaction on Twitter, with the Boston Police official feed sending the following tweets to mark the end of the manhunt:
Suspect in custody. Officers sweeping the area. Stand by for further info.

Some urged caution and restraint:
Whether you like it or not, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is an American citizen. We would be breaking our own principles to refuse him due process.

Carmen Ortiz is leading the prosecution? She’ll make sure he gets life whether there’s evidence or not. #Watertown. #RIPAaronSwartz.

Did you follow the manhunt on Twitter?
I followed along by watching a live feed of the news from Boston….I think trying to follow along on Twitter would have been much more chaotic. At least the news TRIES to hold back opinions.
So glad he is finally been caught and there will be justice. I'm not sure I agree with the police using twitter while all of this was happening though… seems unprofessional?
