Dwayne Johnson Confirms Black Adam Role In ‘Shazam’

We all knew that it was coming but now it’s finally been confirmed: Dwayne Johnson will play Black Adam in Shazam.

Johnson has been teasing his involvement in New Line’s new movie but it wasn’t until this morning that the news was finally confirmed.

Black Adam is Captain Marvel’s nemesis but Variety reports that recent comics portray the character more like an anti-hero trying to clear his name than an all-out villain.

Toby Emmerich, President and COO of New Line, said:

“We Love Dwayne and have had nothing but success with him over the years. When I look at Dwayne both off screen and on screen, he is such a larger than life character and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie. You look at these comic book characters and they have this certain swag and charisma that Dwayne carries with him where ever he is so that’s why this always made sense.”

The overall consensus on Twitter is that Emmerich is right. The Rock is the perfect choice for Black Adam.

A release date for the new movie hasn’t been set yet but Darren Lemke is already working on a script.
