Darrell Hammond is returning to Saturday Night Live.
Hammond, who was a cast member on the show from 1995 to 2009, will be stepping in to replace Don Pardo who passed away earlier this year at the age of 96.
Rolling Stone reports that Pardo retired after SNL’s 38th season. Last year, members of the cast and SNL alums, including Hammond, took turns in the announcer role. Next season, Hammond will officially take the job.
Last year wasn’t the first time that Hammond stepped into Pardo’s shoes. The SNL alum filled in for Pardo several times during his tenure on the late night sketch show. Whenever Pardo was sick, Hammond stepped in to do his best impression of the legendary announcer.

The longtime cast member does a pretty impressive Don Pardo but, according to Lorne Michaels, Hammond will be using his own voice this season.
Michaels said: “I’m really happy about it. I think it will be good to have Darrell doing his own separate thing … It can’t be what it was, but it could sort of be in the same tradition,” Michaels told USA Today. “And it will be nice to have Darrell around. He understands the show and will probably be helpful in ways we haven’t yet figured out.”
Saturday Night Live returns for its 40th season on September 27th. Chris Pratt will host the season premiere with Ariana Grande as the musical guest.
