‘Colbert Report’ Twitter Account Deleted After #CancelColbert Controversy

Stephen Colbert Talks #CancelColbert

The #CancelColbert campaign actually worked? Well, sort of. The Colbert Report is still on the air but the show’s official twitter account, @ColbertReport, has been deleted.

The controversy started earlier this week after a questionable message was posted to the @ColbertReport account. The message referenced a sketch from the show but didn’t include a link to the video. And without context, Colbert is mocking Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder for his attempt to repair relations with the Native American population, the message was seen as racist by many.

The message read: “I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.”

Stephen Colbert doesn’t run the @ColbertReport account and tried to calm everyone down by posting a message to his own account, #StephenAtHome.

When that didn’t work, he devoted nearly an entire show to the #CancelColbert controversy. The comedian reiterated that he has no control of the show’s official account and agreed to shut down his fictional Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation.

Well, it looks like Comedy Central wants to take things one step further. The network deleted the show’s official account and put Colbert in charge of his own social media presence.

Basically, if you want to follow The Colbert Report on Twitter you’re going to have to follow Stephen Colbert.
