But not without the last laugh!
Stephen Colbert, when not being the helmsman of his own late night comedy news show, has been known to show up at the most unexpected places. This time, he’s made an appearance, bringing along his Ceasar Flickerman-like character from his “Hungry for Power Games” segment, at the Republican National Convention just this Sunday.
So there was Colbert, bright blue wig, glittery eyebrows, and stuffed ferret dropping by (as he’d previously announced), and getting a few jabs in just before security came in to cart him off-stage.
What kind of jokes did he pull? Well, take for example that zing he fired at Donald Trumps choice for VP.
“He [Trump] has formed an alliance with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence,” Colbert said into the mic, pretending to nod off on cue, as if to suggest Pence were boring or something. “Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment.” — Policy.Mic

Colbert went on to announce in a theatrical voice, “It is my honor to launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games!”. He banged his gavel on the stand just before security came in to take him away.
However, Stephen Colbert was not to be outdone or even intimidated by this move. We can practically still hear him say albeit some distance from the microphone, “”I know I’m not supposed to be up here, but if we’re honest, neither is Donald Trump.”
Hooo-Woah! You just can’t keep a good comedian down.
