Carrie Underwood had a simple message for haters of her Sound of Music performance — “you need Jesus.” The country star played the role of Maria in a live musical broadcast. While more than 14 million people tuned in to watch the performance, most of them were critical of how it turned out.
Few people bashed Underwood’s singing (she isn’t an American Idol winner for nothing), but they did take offense with her acting skills, which are admittedly a little lackluster. Critics included Kym Karath, who explained that she loves Underwood, but thought she wasn’t the right fit for Maria.
Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong.

To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria. She was brave to take it on.And this doesn’t lessen my respect for her talent.

Carrie’s response came on Friday, with the singer writing:
Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight… 1 Peter 2:1-25 — Carrie Underwood (@carrieunderwood) December 7, 2013
The comment was met with praise from Underwood’s fans, who told her to “preach it” and not to listen to the critics.
