Brooks Wheelan lost his job on Saturday Night Live this week but at least he went out with one last joke.
The comedian, who spent one year on the late night show, broke the news with a joke on Twitter.
Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!

Losing a gig on SNL after just one season may sound like a kiss of death but several comedians have gone on to successful careers after spending a short time on the late night show. Billy Crystal, Gilbert Gottfried, Janeane Garofalo, Randy Quaid, Rob Riggle, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, and Daman Wayans were all on the show for one season. Oh, and Robert Downey Jr.
.@JuddApatow thanks man! I’m gonna take this time to formally submit myself for the Ironman reboot in 2021 and the Chaplin reboot in 2032. — Brooks Wheelan (@brookswheelan) July 15, 2014
Lorne Michaels had a huge cast (17 members) during the last season of Saturday Night Live, the most famous of which was arguably Kennan Thompson. Michaels said that he was going to trim the fat before next season so you can expect a few more SNL cast members to join Brooks Wheelan in the unemployed comedians club.
