Have you ever heard Brian Williams tell the story about how he was rescued after his helicopter was downed by an RPG during the Iraq war in 2003? Well, apparently it was a lie.
Williams was not traveling in an aircraft that was downed by an RPG. He was traveling in an aircraft that was following another aircraft which was downed by an RPG.
Williams came clean last night, saying: “I said I was traveling in an aircraft that was hit by RPG fire. I was instead in a following aircraft. We all landed and spent two harrowing nights in the Iraq desert.”
The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.
You would think that someone would remember if they were, in fact, in a helicopter that crashed landed after being struck by RPG fire. But apparently not Brian Williams. And if he can’t remember that incredible incident correctly, well, what else might Brian Williams misremember…

While most people playfully mocked Brian Williams shoddy memory, some are calling for NBC to fire the news anchor.
Brian Williams has to go. NBC’s credibility is completely shot.
