Some idiot on Twitter threatened to kill Brandon Jacobs last night if the New York Giants running back didn’t rush for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

The problem, you know, other than the fact that someone threatened to kill Brandon Jacobs over a football game, was that Jacobs didn’t even play last night. That makes Twitter user Andre Rayner both slightly psychotic and a terrible fantasy football player.
But that’s besides the point.
Jacobs shared the message this morning saying: “Look at what we deal with …”
Professional football players are cheered by thousands of people every Sunday but they also have to do with a few others who take the game a little too personally. In this case, it looks like Rayner, who later changed his handle to @DMMeBoo, was just a kid who was shooting his mouth off.
An apology quickly followed as well as a statement saying that he would never actually try to kill Brandon Jacobs. And honestly, it doesn’t seem like Jacobs was ever in any danger. Still, when those types of tweets are sent out there is no telling the intent of the person sitting behind the computer.
Rayner writes:
“BRO RELAX ITS NEVER THAT SERIOUS… ITS JUST TWITTER MAN. I TRUELY APOLOGIZE I COULD NEVER ACTUALLY DO THAT. RETWEET THIS PLEASE. FORGIVE ME MAN ITS NOT EVEN LIKE THAT… REALLY IM TRYNA BE YOUR FRIEND !!”
Head coach Tom Coughlin said that he was concerned about the safety of his player.
“It has no business or no place in professional athletics, amateur athletics or whatever. You can extend the entertainment business and then you can begin to formulate questions about where this kind of stuff comes from. You’re always concerned about the player and his family. And for young people to have to worry about something like that, it’s not necessary. It’s not a part of what we do. I’m not going to speculate on social media. I’m just concerned about however this would be revealed, that it’s wrong and it has no business in our game.”
This isn’t the first time that Jacobs has heard threats on Twitter and it won’t be the last.
Jacobs succinctly described the mentality of people like DMMeBoo, saying:
“I’ve heard nice things on Twitter and I’ve heard super bad things on Twitter. But Twitter is Twitter. You’ve got your little cyber-gangsters out there that try to be strong behind the keyboard. But it is what it is. Someone created that platform for people to, I guess, get their rocks off without getting punched in the mouth.”
@DMMeBoo has deleted his account. He has also apparently deleted Brandon Jacobs from his fantasy football team.
