Billy Crystal will give a special tribute to his friend and co-star Robin Williams during the Emmy Awards next week.
Crystal and Williams were longtime friends and shared the screen on several occasions. They starred in the movie Father’s Day together and frequently shared the stage for comedy shows like HBO’s Comic Relief.
Emmy producer Don Mischer said: “We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable. Billy seemed like the perfect choice.”
Hundreds of celebrities have paid tribute to Robin Williams on sites like Twitter and Facebook since the actor’s tragic death earlier this month, but Billy Crystal has had a hard time finding the right words. His only comment came via Twitter shortly after news broke that Williams took his own life.
No words.

Crystal, Williams and Whoopi Goldberg hosted eight editions of “Comic Relief” telethons during the 80s and 90s. THey reunited in 2006 for another fundraiser after Hurricane Katrina.
Mischer didn’t say what he was planning for the Emmy Awards other than he wanted to give Robbin Williams the tribute he deserved.
Mischer said: “While we are all still coming to terms with this week’s tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves.”
The 66th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Seth Meyers. The show will air on August 25th.
