For most of us, happiness and satisfaction often conflict with health. It can’t be helped, people seek solace in their vices, even if some of these vices can be unhealthy such as drinking, avoiding sleep, or lots of food. However, a new study suggests that you can have your cake and eat it too as scientists say the key to a long life can be alcohol, coffee, and being overweight.

Based on a study from researchers at UC Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, you might now be able to stay overweight, drink alcohol and coffee moderately and still live past 90 which by any human standard, is a long life.

The said study began back in 2003 and the researchers found that people who avoided alcohol and coffee are less likely to live as long as those who drank them. Additionally, people who were overweight in their 70s had a clear advantage over their normal or underweight counterparts. The results were based on 1,600 “oldest-old” generation members living in the US.

It is worth noting that being overweight is still vastly different than being obese. Even so, obesity itself and on its own does not increase the risk of dying. In fact, it was not unusual for someone to be overweight or even obese without suffering serious health side effects according to another study at Madras Diabetes Research Foundation in Chennai, India.

Still, those researchers are not saying that it is alright to aim to be fat. Only that even overweight or obese people may also be perfectly healthy in terms of metabolism. There are still other factors that can certainly skew your chances at a long life. The said studies simply proved that people who drink alcohol & coffee, and are overweight can have an advantage and can still be healthy.
