Can posting a selfie to Facebook save your life? One Kentucky woman claims that’s what happened to her after she posted a gruesome photo of her bloodied face to the social network in an effort to get help.
According to WKYT, Susann Stacy was brutally beaten by her husband on Monday night, and was unable to call for help after he had ripped the phone from the wall. Her cell phone didn’t have service, but she was able to connect to the Internet.
She took a photo of her bloody face and posted it to Facebook with the words: “Help… please anyone.”
One of her friends saw the horrific post on Facebook and called the police.
The deputy who responded to the scene described Stacy’s condition when he found her.
“She had several lacerations to the head. They appeared to be bad but we really couldn’t tell at the time, due to her hair was matted to her, and the blood.”
Stacy told authorities that her husband beat her repeatedly with a handgun after overhearing her talking on the phone with another man. The husband was not home when the deputy arrived, but he was located near the residence and arrested on assault charges.
Stacy explained why she turned to Facebook for help in a post on Monday night:
“A statement about the events of Monday.. I posted a picture via WiFi because it was my ONLY way to seek help. I didn’t have a phone to call on… no cell service… just WiFi. I just wanted help.. to not die in a pool of my own blood in my kitchen floor. I am thankful for all the help… care… concern… and humanity shown to me. There are so many negative statements being made… along with positive ones… following the news stories. To each their own. Time to find that more better forever. Blessings.”
