A hero sandwich in the United States might be a favorite for New Yorkers, but further afield the term can be rather more literal. This week, McDonald’s of Hong Kong began selling a Batman-themed burger for fans who can’t get enough of the caped crusader.
Batman’s ‘Diner Double Beef’ Burger differentiates itself from the norm by placing a fried egg straight from the breakfast menu on top of its two beef patties. The relevance of this egg to the Batman character is not quite clear, although based upon the television commercial for the product, it might just be the hero’s personal preference — the ad depicts him taking a break from fighting crime to loiter around the Gotham McDonald’s.
Accompanying the burger are ‘Squeezy Cheesy Fries’, which are essentially just french fries served with a packet of cheese sauce for you to top them with. The above advert suggests that fellow Justice League members The Flash, Green Lantern and Superman are also set to receive their own fast food incarnations over the next few weeks.
As ever, once photographs of the Batman Burger hit the internet, Twitter flew into a fast food frenzy about a product that many Batman fans wouldn’t be able to enjoy.
Bat-Fans Worldwide Covet the Batman Burger
Around the globe, news of the Batman Burger was met with cries of ‘why not here?’ The internet age has given people more scope than ever to see what people in other parts of the world are snacking on, and region-specific items — for example, the recent relaunch of 90s classic Surge — tend to appeal even more to people who don’t have access to them. With a character as popular as Batman, people were especially keen to get their hands on a bite of the Dark Knight.

Bring Back the Batman Forever Burger
Batman Forever may be almost twenty years old, but the promotional burger that released alongside the movie is still dear to the hearts of many fans. This newfangled Batman Burger means very little to these few — is it too late to see a re-release of this classic sandwich? All signs would point to yes — although when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released next year, perhaps there will be a new burger tie-in for the US?
Was the Batman Forever "Hero Sandwich" at McDonald's only a Canadian thing? 'Cause that was my favorite burger ever.

Not the Burger We Deserve, But the One We Needed
Like Batman himself — as well as just about anything on the internet — not everyone was so enamoured with the idea of the Batman Burger. Many went as far as to lambast the fast food creation, even in the face of them having no chance of purchasing it themselves. It seems that you can’t please everyone; either you die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
