Apple Watch: Everything We Know So Far

Apple shocked the world again last night with a new revolutionary product: The Apple Watch.

OK, maybe revolutionary isn’t the right word. In fact, the product has been receiving very mixed reviews since it made it’s debut yesterday at Apple’s big event.

The Apple Watch won’t be available until next year and the company didn’t reveal too many technical details about the product. But they did show a couple of cool promo videos.

Looks pretty cool, right? No? Well, here’s what we know so far about the Apple Watch.

1.) The Apple watch isn’t a stand-alone device. You’ll need an iPhone to operate it. Which makes sense since the Apple Watch is basically a second screen for your iPhone.

2.) Well, it’s a little more than that. It’s also a mobile credit card. Time Magazine reports that the Apple Watch will be compatible with the company’s new Apple Pay system. Apple Watch users, and iPhone 6 owners, will be able to use their Apple devices to pick up the tab at participating retailers like McDonald’s.

3.) The Apple Watch could be a big hit with fitness buffs. Wearables are already popular in the sports world and Apple is hoping to take a chunk of the market share. In addition to having an accelerometer and GPS, the Apple Watch will also be able to count calories.

4.) Apple Watch users will be part of their own little community. Tim Cook repeatedly called the device “intimate” and said that users will be able to share information (like heart rate, why?) to other users.

5.) The Apple Watch will cost $349 when it is released next year and will be available in different sizes and models. It will also have interchangeable wrist straps so you can customize your own watch.

As for technical specs, we’re still in the dark. We don’t know what sort of apps the Apple Watch will have or how long the battery will last. Rumor has it that the device will need to be charged every day.

What do you think of the Apple Watch? Is this a “game changer?” Is it white noise? Will you be buying one in 2015? Here’s what Twitter has to say.
