Saturday, May 17, was Andy Samberg’s first time hosting Saturday Night Live. For those of you living under a SNL rock, this is important because Samberg was a regular cast member for years and left to do different things (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Hence, important because this was his first time actually hosting the show. This was also the season 39 finale episode.
Samberg decided to squeeze in 23 impressions to catch up to Bill Hader, known as an “impression master.” Helping out “The Lonely Island” star was his good friend Seth Meyers, old SNL cast mate, new host of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Some of the impressions completed were: young Travolta, Ryan Reynolds, Beetlejuice, Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, and the guy who does the Entourage theme song. The Smokey the Bear to Pharrell cut was prime.
Samberg blew through those 23 impressions only to be “surprised” by Hader interrupting the monologue to complete two additional impressions to keep his spot in first place.
This was a great episode if you weren’t able to catch it. A ton of celebrity/guest appearances, including Paul Rudd, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Fred Armisen. Bill Hader stuck around for some skits too.
