Amy Poehler Doesn’t Do Social Media, And Here’s Why

Amy Poehler No Social Media

Amy Poehler doesn’t do social media, and she has very good reasons for making that choice. But in an age where many celebrities (and their publicists, friends, family, etc) interact with their fans on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, Poehler stands out for not doing it.

The actress explained in a recent interview, “I’m not a really social media person. I’m not on Twitter.” The actress added that she often finds that people can be mean online, even when it isn’t their intention. PEOPLE notes that Poehler explained, “I try not to read too much online because I always get my feelings hurt, even if someone’s flattering you.”

Her examples included people tweeting things about finding her attractive or wanting to have sex with her. Amy also has no love for Instagram, or the word of the year — selfies. She explained, “The amount of Instagram selfies seems crazy out-of-control. The idea of, ‘This is my face and everyone needs to see it all the time,’ is so far from the privacy that people used to seek.”

She does admit, however, that things have changed since the time when she was growing up. Instead of going to a party or concert and taking photos that “would stay inside the camera,” Poehler explains, “Pictures were an addition to the experience. Now the picture is the experience.”

As for how she feels about social media influencing her two young sons, Amy Poehler revealed, “I’m terrified!” Given that they are 5 and 3, we’re hoping she has a few more years yet until Archie and Abel start roaming around social media.
