Amazon Shopper Gets Phallic Surprise in Shopping Cart

In what could be a great pilot episode for the reality show I’m pitching called “When Customer Service Reps Behave Badly,” an Amazon shopper ended up with a bit of a surprise in his shopping cart after lodging a complaint with the company. It’s all laid out in a hilarious investigative piece by Sebastian Anthony over at Ars Technica. Here’s the cliffnotes version:

In October of 2015, a man named Pedro–who has asked that his last name be withheld–purchased a textbook from a retailer on Amazon. To his chagrin, the retailer sent him an outdated version of the book. After corresponding with Amazon to find the updated edition, to no positive result, Pedro left some negative feedback on the seller’s page. He figured that would be the end of it.

Sometime later, Pedro logged back into his Amazon account and found something unusual in his shopping cart–a 10.25 inch dildo, titled “The Hulk 10.25-inch Huge Dong Black” (follow that NSFW link if you dare). Through some correspondence with Amazon representatives, Pedro learned that the massive artificial dong was placed in his cart by a customer service representative, but was assured that HR had been informed of the situation.

For his trouble, Pedro received a £100 Amazon credit. He’s still a little sour, though.

“If my best friend did it to me while I wasn’t watching, of course I would find it funny,” Pedro told Ars Technica. “I’m not a prude. The problem is, I was at the office, in an open space, with people behind me. A guy and two girls were sitting by me when I opened up Amazon and they saw the contents of my shopping basket.”

Still, I’d take the momentary embarrassment for £100 of free stuff from Amazon.
