Amazon, PlayStation 4 Lead Black Friday In Social Media Mentions

Black Friday 2013

Black Friday went over smoothly as usual, and according to new data from Adobe Digital Index, Amazon was the top mentioned retailer on social media with nearly 450,000 posts.

Adobe Digital Index analyzed online sales figures and social media posts over Thanksgiving day, and Black Friday.

Walmart came in second place behind Amazon, and the NFL generated nearly twice as many mentions as Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 was a clear winner on social media, coming in at over 300,000 posts.

According to Adobe, it drove almost 3x more traffic on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, blogs (which includes WordPress and Blogger), Reddit and YouTube than the Xbox One.

When it came to Thanksgiving and Black Friday online sales, here were the results:

  • Online Thanksgiving sales up 18 percent from 2012.
  • Online Black Friday sales hit $1.93 billion, an over 30 percent increase from 2012.
  • Online shopping peaked between 11AM and 12 PM Eastern on Black Friday.
  • 24 percent of online sales came from mobile devices.
  • The iPad accounted for $417 million in online sales, the iPhone $126 million and Android $106 million.

While Black Friday is now in the rear view, Cyber Monday is just days away, and Adobe estimates a 15 percent increase this year to $2.27 billion in online sales.
