A video of Air Canada baggage handlers throwing gate checked baggage has gone viral. The bags, which were checked at the last minute, were tossed from as high as twenty feet.
The video, posted on Thursday, has racked up more than 1.6 million YouTube views. In the video, a baggage handler stands at the top of a large staircase, while tossing baggage into a waiting bin.
At one point another Air Canada worker takes the time to add a little bit of padding to the container, helping soften the blow from the baggage tossing.
Following the videos release Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah told CBC News, “The employees involved have been suspended and advised that their employment will be terminated pending the outcome of our investigation.”
In a public statement Air Canada writes:
“In light of a recent video posted to YouTube, we would like to apologize for the totally unacceptable mishandling of our passengers’ baggage captured on video. We take matters involving the protection of our customers’ personal possessions very seriously. The actions of these individuals are not representative of the vast majority of our employees who work hard every day to take care of our customers.”
The Air Canada baggage tossing video was captured from inside the plane as a customer waited to leave the jet.
