The father of Adam Lanza has given his first interview since his sons attack on the children and faculty of Sandy Hook Elementary. The interview, which gives a chilling account of his sons actions, has become one of the top trends on Facebook.
Speaking to New Yorker magazine Peter Lanza reveals, “With hindsight, I know Adam would have killed me in a heartbeat, if he’d had the chance.”
In his first public interview since his sons attack Peter further notes, “The reason he shot Nancy four times was one for each of us: one for Nancy; one for him; one for (his brother) Ryan; one for me.”
Adam Lanza shot his mother, Nancy, before heading off to shoot 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The shooting took place in December 2012.
While Peter Lanza admits that his son visited mental health professionals, he also says no signs of violent tendencies were ever observed.
Lanza further notes that his son was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a diagnosis that may have caused him to overlook other troubling sizes. Peter adds, “Asperger’s makes people unusual, but it doesn’t make people like this.”
Speaking about his ex-wife, Lanza admits that she also never witnessed Adam’s violent side, “She never confided to her sister or best friend about being worried … She slept with her bedroom door unlocked and kept guns in the house, which she would not have done if she were frightened.”
Peter further adds that his son was “a normal, weird little kid” growing up. However, by the time he reached middle school, “it was crystal clear something was wrong.”
Speaking of his sons actions Peter Lanza admits that he thinks about it every waking hour, adding, “You can’t get any more evil. How much do I beat up on myself about the fact that he’s my son? A lot.”
Two families met with Peter Lanza upon his request. In one case a family member who engaged in a three hour conversation forgave Adam Lanza for taking their only son.
With Adam Lanza still managing to trend on Facebook, we doubt this is the last we will hear about the school shooting and his life before the massacre.
