Fighting Crime Through Instagram

In one of our previous articles, we’ve focused on how social media can be used as a viable tool for tracking and locking down on crime. However, did you know that Instagram can actually be used as a tool for crime-fighting?

Officer Eduard Ochoa of the San Francisco Police Department is currently its “Instagram Officer”. His main task? Tracking down offenders and criminal behavior on the photo-centric social media platform. His latest success is a 17-year-old minor wielding a gun on many of his photos. (Perhaps the handle “40glock-” gave it away, too.) The police saw the images and did a probationary search on the minor’s house, which eventually led to a conviction.
