2014 Razzie Award Nominations Take on the Worst Movies of the Year

Forget the Oscars — the nominations you should be interested in as 2015 begins are those for the awards show that highlights the worst of the year in film; the Razzie Awards.

For more than twenty years, the night before the pomp and ceremony of the Oscars has seen the Golden Raspberry or Razzie Awards take a swing at the worst of Hollywood. Irreverent categories like ‘Worst Screen Combo’ and ‘Worst Rip-off, Remake or Sequel’ should be all you need to know to understand the tone of these awards.

This years round of nominations features Transformers: Age of Extinction very prominently, with the movie being put forward for just about every award it was eligible for. Other critically-maligned films making the list include A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Legend of Hercules and Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas.

While the effect of the Razzie Awards is undoubtedly diminished in an era when social media allows individual cinema goers to tear into big releases in front of a worldwide audience, it’s nice to see the tradition of cutting the movie industry down to side for a moment continue. We saw plenty of movie magic in 2014 that will be deservedly congratulated at the Oscars — but that doesn’t mean the stinkers shouldn’t get their due, too.
