YouTube will launch several paid content channels in the coming months and in preparation for those channels the company has released an updated YouTube Android app.
Spotted by the Android Police, the latest Android YouTube app update has injected a few lines of code that almost certainly confirm the launch of upcoming pay-to-view channels.
Check out the code below and you can see where it proclaims:
“You can only subscribe to this paid channel on your computer” and “You can only unsubscribe from this paid channel on your computer.”
When CNET spoke with YouTube the company responded with a standoffish answer:
“We have nothing to announce at this time, but we’re looking into creating a subscription service that could bring even more great content to YouTube for our users to enjoy and provide our creators with another vehicle to generate revenue from their content, beyond the rental and ad-supported models we offer.”
Are you willing to pay for content from some of YouTube’s top content creators?
