Yahoo Dumping Facebook And Google Sign-In, Will Require Yahoo ID

Yahoo

Yahoo has made some big changes since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO, and the latest is removing the ability to sign-in with your Facebook or Google account.

The change will be gradual, starting with its fantasy sports service, and will eventually make its way to all services, including sites such as Flickr.

From a Yahoo spokesperson:

“Yahoo is continually working on improving the user experience, which includes our sign-in process for Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick’Em. This new process, which now asks users to sign in with a Yahoo username, will allow us to offer the best personalized experience to everyone.”

While the company stands to lose some users, it’s a smart move to better differentiate itself.

Yahoo has made its services more attractive over the past couple years, and it’s got every reason to believe that most users will want to become a bigger part of that.
